The Arcade Museum in Krakow

Museum?

Hello everyone, we made a trip to Krakow and stayed there for a week. One of the things we did, happens to be related to this blog. We went to an arcade museum. The first thing that came to my mind was: “Okay, two to three small rooms with a few machines which are not completely functional”. This is what I thought, but when we arrived it was so much different. There is this really big and old warehouse and inside dozens of dozens of machines and all of them were on and ready to play. It was so cool!

Games!

Mario Bros. was released in 1983 as the successor of the popular Donkey Kong. It is a Jump’n’Run for up to 2 players, where you try to defeat turtles by confusing and hitting them. You cannot jump on their heads yet. It’s like in Kirby’s Dream Land where you kind of miss a popular feature, but it has not been implemented yet.

There are also more obscure ones like this. xD

Defender was released in 1980 by Williams Electronics. It is a sidescrolling shooter, where you can fly in both directions. I absolutely love that game. The goal of the game is to defend people from aliens. This is what I read at Wikipedia but I did not know that and this is because why I also attakced the humans. Well, it was so much fun and I look forward to get the DOS version.

Dig Dug was released in 1982 by Namco. Your job is it to dig tunnels and defeat all the enemies. It was a nostalgic experience. Not because I played it in the past but because I played a clone of it, that was delivered with Moorhuhn in one of those “100 games mega packs”.

Space Invaders was released in 1978. This might be the most popular one besides Pac-Man. It is a simple but fun shooter, much simpler than Defender. This is why I currently develop a little clone for my website.
